About the position

The School of Education at Loyola University Chicago is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Teacher Education. This role involves teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, engaging in scholarship, and fulfilling service responsibilities within the Teaching and Learning program. The position emphasizes a commitment to social justice and culturally responsive education, aiming to prepare future educators for diverse learning environments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a teaching load of both undergraduate and graduate courses and modules, including field-based learning experiences.
• Work with undergraduate students pursuing initial Illinois educator licensure in various education levels and specialties.
• Teach graduate courses, supervise doctoral dissertations, and support independent studies for graduate students.
• Fulfill service responsibilities, including advising students and providing leadership within the Teaching and Learning program.
• Develop a research agenda, present at conferences, seek research funding, and publish relevant research.
• Collaborate with faculty across specialty areas to enhance student support and program quality.
• Maintain and enhance partnerships with schools and community agencies.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate in Teacher Education, Learning Sciences, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field from an accredited program.
• Current or previous state educator licensure.
• Experience in multiple areas of teaching across early childhood, elementary, middle grades, secondary, or special education settings.
• Research experience in the candidate's field of expertise.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in urban education and efforts to address social justice.
• Successful prior work in teacher education.
• Supervision or field-based work with practicum students and/or interns.
• Knowledge of and experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) and IB schools.
• Experience with multilingual learners and multilingualism.
