About the position

The Occupational Therapist (OT) at Amergis is responsible for evaluating students, developing therapy services, and documenting care in accordance with individualized plans. The role involves collaboration with healthcare teams to ensure effective rehabilitation and support for students with various needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides skilled occupational therapy services/interventions in accordance with physician orders
  • Regularly reevaluates student for rehabilitation needs and modifies the plan of care as appropriate
  • Collaborates with all disciplines to plan and evaluate team goals for each student
  • Assesses student's needs and modifies care to meet goals of Occupational Therapy Interventions
  • Instructs student/family/caregivers on the student's total occupational therapy program
  • Advises and instructs members of the multi-disciplinary team in specific occupational therapy modalities
  • Observes and reports student progress and/or changes in student status to the physician and appropriate multi-disciplinary team members
  • Directs OT treatment and develops occupational therapy plan of care
  • Refers individuals to other disciplines as deemed appropriate and approved by the physician
  • Reports reaction to treatment and adverse signs and symptoms to the physician, building/district nurse, and parents/caregivers
  • Teaches new skills or retrains students in daily activities affected by illness or injury
  • Establishes equipment needs to facilitate independent functioning
  • Instructs student and family/caregiver in the use of adaptive equipment
  • Trains student and family/caregiver in use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation according to the plan of care
  • Participates in IEP conferences or other meetings as required
  • Prepares and submits clinical progress-summary based on the progress of goals
  • Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants according to company policies/procedures and State regulations
  • Complies with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding professional standards and practice standards
  • May fabricate splints and instruct individual and/or family/caregiver in the use, application and benefits
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Requirements

  • Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the State of practice
  • One (1) year of prior professional Occupational Therapy experience preferred
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
