About the position

The School Program and Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating hands-on, place-based education programming and field trips at Hawaiian Mission Houses. This role involves outreach to schools for booking field trips, conducting both onsite and virtual field trips, and managing volunteers to support various educational and public programming activities.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and conducts school programs on-site and virtually
• Works to grow the education program by building relationships with educators and schools
• Schedules volunteers to ensure well-staffed programming operations
• Tracks and maintains records for school visits, volunteers, and overall health of programming
• Works with grant driven programs, deliverables, and required data reporting
• Assists with public tours of Mission Houses Site
• Responsible for all aspects of volunteer management to include recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention
• Assists with fundraising events, special programming, workshops and classes as needed on a case-by-case basis
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education and Executive Director

Requirements

• Bachelor's or associate degree in a related field or commensurate experience in education as well as with school aged children and young adults
• Basic computer and communication skills
• Knowledge of curriculum development
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and able to manage and engage student groups of all ages
• Be organized and flexible, with sensitivity to the multicultural nature of our local, diverse audiences, as well as tourists

Nice-to-haves

• Degree in Education or teacher training
• Course of study with a focus on Hawaiian History, Hawaiian Studies, American Studies, and/or American History
• Experience working in museums, tours & hospitality, and/or volunteer management
• ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi Speaker
