About the position

The School Resource Officer Patrol Deputy is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and secure environment within school campuses and facilities. This role involves responding to calls for police intervention, enforcing laws, and collaborating with school staff to ensure the safety of students, personnel, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to calls requiring peace officer intervention or service, ensuring a safe and secure environment.
  • Enforce laws, policies, and provisions of the Texas Penal Code and the Texas Education Code.
  • Prepare police reports and identify potential safety and security hazards.
  • Collaborate with district and campus staff overseeing safety protocols.
  • Follow department safety procedures, including safe handling and use of firearms.
  • Patrol district property to protect students, staff, and visitors from harm and prevent property loss.
  • Follow the district Emergency Response Guide and Emergency Operations Procedures (EOP).
  • Regulate traffic and enforce traffic laws through citations and warnings.
  • Identify and arrest individuals accused of criminal acts.
  • Give testimony in court proceedings.
  • Collect evidence using proper methods, including fingerprinting and labeling.
  • Respond to distress calls or calls for assistance.
  • Investigate reports of suspicious activity and interview witnesses and suspects.
  • Pursue fleeing suspects on foot or by motor vehicle.
  • Engage in criminal and narcotics interdiction techniques.
  • Provide road assistance to motorists and give directions.
  • Book and process prisoners and document investigation reports.
  • Respond to accidents or stranded motorists.
  • Maintain proficiency in firearms qualifications as set out by the Milam County Sheriff Office.
  • Maintain physical and mental fitness for the performance of duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Completion of police academy training and certification as a peace officer.
