About the position

The School Secretary position at Polk County Public Schools is a full-time role focused on performing responsible clerical and secretarial duties within a school environment. Responsibilities

  • Compile and type school attendance reports and other materials from various sources.
  • Type and process student registration, absentee lists, and tardy slips.
  • Prepare reports, narratives, and statistical tabulations.
  • Operate office copy machines and process purchase and work orders.
  • Register and withdraw students, maintaining accurate records.
  • Provide information and assistance to students and the public, applying knowledge of school rules and procedures.
  • Perform receptionist duties, including answering calls and composing correspondence.
  • Maintain internal accounts and prepare financial reports.
  • Keep time records and prepare payrolls.
  • Prepare requisitions for supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or completion of GED.
  • Clerical and secretarial office experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures, grammar, spelling, and business correspondence.
  • Ability to type at a prescribed rate of speed.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and deal effectively with students and the public.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
