Responsibilities

  • Prepare a variety of typewritten materials, including correspondence, budget material, schedules, and reports.
  • Confer with parents regarding student attendance and welfare.
  • Obtain substitute personnel as needed.
  • Assist in attendance work and maintain student records.
  • Make arrangements for and coordinate the use of school facilities by school groups or outside organizations.
  • Prepare bank deposits and disburse funds from petty cash.
  • Operate duplicating equipment and prepare attendance reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and administer first aid to students.
  • Cross-train in other job classifications in the school office complex.
  • Supervise student assistants when assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of modern office methods, equipment, and practices, including filing systems and receptionist techniques.
  • Proficiency in English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Basic computer input and retrieval methods.
  • Ability to interpret and apply District rules and policies governing school activities.
  • Capability to perform responsible clerical work with accuracy and speed.
  • Skill in analyzing situations and adopting effective courses of action.
  • Ability to meet the public tactfully and courteously in situations requiring diplomacy and firmness.
  • Quick and accurate arithmetic calculation skills.
  • Typing speed of 40 WPM from clear copy and ability to take dictation at 80 WPM (may not be required in all assignments).
  • Obtain a Red Cross first aid certificate.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
