About the position

Therapy Staff EDU is seeking a dedicated and passionate School Services Special Education Teacher for a local contract position in Houston, Texas. This role is essential for providing specialized educational support to students with diverse learning needs. The selected candidate will work collaboratively with a team of professionals, including classroom teachers, school psychologists, learning disabilities specialists, speech and hearing specialists, and school social workers. The goal is to create an integrated educational plan that fosters the development of each student's unique capabilities. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for setting individualized learning goals for each student, assessing their progress, and maintaining detailed records of their evaluations. Communication with parents is a key component of this role, as you will update them on their child's progress and encourage their involvement in behavior management and home activities that complement classroom learning. Additionally, you will supervise and train teaching assistants, ensuring they are equipped to support the educational needs of students effectively. This position also involves planning for the transition of students into productive lives after they complete their secondary education, which is a critical aspect of fostering independence and success in their future endeavors. The role is full-time, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week over a duration of 36 weeks, starting on July 31, 2024. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with an 8-hour shift each day.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other classroom teachers, school psychologists, learning disabilities specialists, speech/hearing specialists, and school social workers to provide an integrated plan for developing the capacities of their students.
  • Set learning goals for each student, assess their progress, and record their evaluations.
  • Update parents on the progress of their students and enlist parental support with behavior control and home activities designed to supplement their classroom lessons.
  • Supervise and train teaching assistants.
  • Help plan for the transition of their students to productive lives after the completion of their secondary education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education
  • Active Special Education Credential

Nice-to-haves
