Originally founded in 1991 as Harlem RBI, DREAM has grown to annually serve more than 2,500 youth across East Harlem and the South Bronx through a network of seven PreK-12, extended-day, extended-year DREAM Charter Schools and community sports-based youth development programs. Reporting to the Academic Dean, the High School Digital Media Arts Teacher will be responsible for building meaningful relationships with students, creating and implementing curriculum, and working with their grade teams to analyze data to drive instruction. Responsibilities

  • Create and foster a culture where all students can achieve at high levels in Digital Media Arts through rigorous instruction and project-based learning.
  • Empower students through technology by providing hands-on experiences with industry-standard software and tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro), digital photography, animation, and video production.
  • Create and implement curriculum through backwards lesson planning and follow school-wide protocols for developing and documenting syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and rubrics, ensuring alignment with Career and Technical Education certification standards in Digital Media Arts.
  • Prepare students for CTE certification pathways in Digital Media Arts by guiding them through coursework, portfolio development, and technical skill assessments required for industry-recognized credentials.
  • Track, monitor, and assume responsibility for academic progress of students through formative and summative assessments, student projects, and portfolio evaluations.
  • Work with fellow teachers and leaders to analyze data, revise practices, and norm on team-wide initiatives, ensuring alignment with school-wide goals.
  • Facilitate student-led projects and exhibitions that showcase digital media work through school and community events, digital portfolios, and public showcases.
  • Stay current with emerging trends and technology in digital media arts and integrate new tools and methodologies into classroom instruction.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with students and families, providing regular updates on academic progress, project work, and future career pathways in digital media arts.
  • Other responsibilities related to the running of the school, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • New York State certification preferred.
  • At least two years of teaching experience with record of improving student achievement strongly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Graphic Design and Digital Media Tools (ex. Adobe Creative Suite).
  • A desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families and community.
  • Desire and ability to receive and implement feedback.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences (including colleagues, students, families).
  • A commitment to working with diverse populations of families and students.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
