About the position

The Science Circus Whittier Project is a set of partnerships that connect Whittier College students with the local community in meaningful and impactful ways. Project activities include in-person events held at a variety of locations, including but not limited to Whittier-area parks, schools, parking lots, and community centers as well as providing resources disseminated electronically through the project website as well as in partnership with some organizations. These activities make use of existing resources and public domains to increase accessibility to science and create scientifically ingrained activities that can inspire all ages. Families and community members can take advantage of these resources at various levels and deepen their connection with the local environment.

Responsibilities

  • Field event requests from community partner and schedule activities
  • Coordinate the assembly of activity kits with WC students
  • Plan and execute event logistics and set up in collaboration with host sites
  • Identify which WC students will work each event
  • Support the director and/or supervise day-of implementation
  • Create program documents and maintain records including a list of community partners, history of partnership and points of contact, student handbook, social media accounts, memoranda of understanding/contracts, and source files for resources maintained on the website
  • Coordinate the Whittier College Child Development student volunteers who assist with select events
  • Coordinate with Whittier High School on their student volunteer and joint events

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or business or the equivalent training and experience
  • A minimum of 3 years financial aid administration experience with strong current knowledge of federal and state programs
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and accurately with campus partners, students, and their families
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to listen, remain calm, and appreciate students and parents from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize projects and deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills to research information and resolve complex problems, as well as assess processes and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Technical skills to learn and use enterprise and job-related systems and tools
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality and strict adherence to FERPA
  • Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions and sound judgments on routine to critical matters
  • Ability to maintain and present data in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to work independently and be a team player when needed

Benefits

  • Part time (15 hours per week)
  • Salary Range: $16.50-$17.50 per hour; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge
