About the position

The Science Communications and Media Specialist at Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh is a creative role focused on enhancing public engagement with science through storytelling, multimedia content creation, and strategic communications. This position supports the new 'Rapid Science Engagement Initiative' aimed at making timely scientific news accessible and engaging for diverse audiences. Ideal candidates will possess strong writing and multimedia skills, along with a passion for science.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance public understanding of relevant science topics.
• Collaborate with the Marketing team and the Science Communication Advisory Committee to highlight science-related topics.
• Create and write engaging science content for various platforms, including blogs, articles, and educational materials.
• Manage and create engaging social media content across multiple platforms for the 'Rapid Science Engagement Initiative'.
• Plan, film, and edit short-form video content showcasing scientific topics and events.
• Collaborate with scientists and educators to produce accurate and effective multimedia content.
• Identify opportunities for public engagement and outreach through events and content creation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in communications or marketing roles.
• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, professional writing, marketing, social media, multimedia, or related areas.
• Excellent storytelling and writing abilities.
• Strong proficiency in content creation and strategic multimedia development.
