About the position

The Science Education Administrator (Program Director) position at the National Science Foundation (NSF) is focused on enhancing STEM education and workforce development. The role involves overseeing programs that support graduate education, particularly in computer science and its intersections with emerging technologies such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The Program Director will be responsible for proposal review, evaluation, and providing consultation within NSF, while also managing grants and ensuring program objectives are met.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the proposal review and evaluation process.
  • Conduct scientific/technical analyses of proposals.
  • Select individuals for objective reviews of proposals.
  • Conduct programmatic reviews and evaluate similar or related projects.
  • Negotiate technical and financial revisions of proposals as required.
  • Conduct final review of proposals and evaluations, recommending awards or declinations.
  • Evaluate projects and activities by conducting site visits and reviewing reports.
  • Negotiate interagency agreements with other Federal agencies for funding support.
  • Serve as a consultant within NSF on scientific matters related to the field.
  • Provide advice to prospective awardees and institutional representatives about NSF objectives, policies, and practices.
  • Participate in writing program announcements or solicitations.
  • Assist applicants in preparing proposals that conform to program requirements.
  • Coordinate with other divisions to enhance involvement of diverse groups in program areas.
  • Prepare internal budget plans for programs or other DGE activities.
  • Manage and monitor grants/cooperative agreements to ensure fulfillment of commitments to NSF.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, data science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, or a related field with six or more years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field with eight or more years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer science education and its intersection with emerging areas such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience in research administration and/or managerial roles pertinent to the position.
