About the position

The High School Science Teacher position is a full-time role focused on delivering quality education to high school students in Wilmington, DE. The teacher will be responsible for creating an engaging learning environment, developing lesson plans tailored to student needs, and assessing student progress. This role requires collaboration with staff and parents to support students' academic and emotional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively teach content area to high school students.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students regularly and provide reports as required.
  • Notify parents of student progress when necessary.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Determine the appropriate pace for instruction related to students' abilities.
  • Explain material and subject content to students and parents.
  • Differentiate instruction for students based upon need and work with students in inclusive settings.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff and parents.
  • Monitor, instruct, and develop relationships with a small group advisory.

Requirements

  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Delaware License and 9-12 Certification in required areas.
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exams.
  • Additional qualifications and/or alternatives as deemed necessary by the Board of Education and Administration.

Nice-to-haves

  • AP or Dual Enrollment experience preferred.
