About the position

The Science Teacher position at Peet Junior High is designed to provide students with engaging learning activities that promote their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The role involves developing lesson plans, assessing student learning, and collaborating with special education staff to accommodate diverse learning needs. The teacher will also manage classroom behavior, communicate with parents, and participate in professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency and district policies.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students according to IEP guidelines.
  • Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned and general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
