About the position

The Science Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering instructional content that facilitates student learning in science. This role involves managing classroom activities, student behavior, and instructional time effectively to enhance educational outcomes and support students' social development. The teacher will also coordinate with teacher assistants and engage with students, parents, and the community to create a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson.
• Initiate lessons quickly and ensure students are on task from the start.
• Establish and enforce rules and procedures for classroom behavior and participation.
• Monitor student behavior during various instructional activities and transitions.
• Begin lessons with a review of previous materials and introduce new learning objectives.
• Present lessons using clear and understandable language, providing relevant examples and demonstrations.
• Assign tasks that students can successfully complete and maintain a brisk instructional pace.
• Circulate during class to monitor student performance and provide timely feedback.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
• Treat all students fairly and interact effectively with students, co-workers, and parents.

Requirements

• North Carolina ESL K-12 Licensure preferred.
• Experience in teaching science subjects.
• Strong classroom management skills.
• Ability to develop and implement instructional plans that align with curricular goals.
• Effective communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
