About The Position

The Science Writer at Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) is responsible for crafting compelling narratives that communicate research and innovation in the life and physical sciences. This role involves collaborating with faculty, researchers, and students to produce articles, news releases, and multimedia content aimed at engaging both internal and external audiences. The position requires strong writing skills, the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines, and a passion for storytelling in the scientific domain.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• At least five years of relevant writing, journalism, or academic research experience.
• Exceptional writing skills and strong interpersonal skills.
• Project management skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Experience writing within the sciences and translating complex topics for a broad audience.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in communications within an academic setting.
• Demonstrated comfort working with faculty and building relationships for story opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Write research articles, features, news releases, and other materials to achieve positive coverage.
• Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students to identify and frame key messages.
• Develop and implement strategic communications plans with the Director of FAS Editorial and the Dean of Science.
• Generate ideas and execute multimedia packages for Harvard's online presence, including audio, podcast, and video interviews.
• Maintain strong relationships with faculty, students, and staff in the FAS.
• Manage multiple timelines and meet research embargo deadlines.
• Perform administrative writing and other duties as assigned.
