About the position

The Scientific Business Analyst (Research Informatics) role at Amgen focuses on supporting the informatics needs of the global small molecule therapeutics discovery research organization. This position serves as a bridge between scientists and R&D technology, ensuring that informatics solutions enhance drug discovery processes. The analyst will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement technology and data solutions that facilitate small molecule design, synthesis, testing, and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with medicinal, analytical, and computational chemists to gather requirements and define informatics system needs.
  • Lead or assist in the deployment of chemistry-focused informatics tools, including cheminformatics software and AI tools for drug design.
  • Facilitate integration of chemical structure data and experimental results into cohesive systems for research teams.
  • Implement and manage AI and machine learning tools for molecule design and property prediction.
  • Build interactive dashboards using data visualization platforms to enable scientists to analyze complex data.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows related to compound synthesis and chemical inventory tracking.
  • Create and maintain documentation for system requirements and user guides.
  • Act as a liaison between research teams, technology teams, and vendors to align system functionalities with user needs.
  • Deliver training programs for chemists and researchers on various informatics platforms and tools.
  • Oversee test plans to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Life Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or Information Systems; OR a Master's degree with 2 years of relevant experience; OR a Bachelor's degree with 4 years of relevant experience; OR an Associate's degree with 8 years of relevant experience; OR a High school diploma/GED with 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong background in chemistry or cheminformatics, particularly in small molecule drug discovery.
  • Familiarity with cheminformatics software and data analysis platforms used in medicinal chemistry workflows.
  • Experience in AI and machine learning for molecule design and property predictions.
  • Expertise in integrating chemistry data and ensuring efficient data management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands-on experience with chemistry software used in drug discovery research.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and experience with tools like Jira.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
