About the position

The Scientific/Principal Investigator role in Genomic Technologies at GSK focuses on leveraging advanced statistical methods and computational techniques to analyze and interpret genetic and genomic data. This position is integral to the Human Genetics and Genomics department, contributing to drug discovery and development by uncovering causal gene-phenotype links and identifying potential drug targets. The role offers a hybrid working model, allowing for a balance between remote and in-office work, and emphasizes a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Generating large-scale analysis outputs and implementing state-of-the-art tools for analyzing and visualizing genetic and genomic data.
  • Evaluating, improving, testing, and developing production implementations of best-in-class methods for genetics and genomics data analysis.
  • Collaborating with partners in applied and translational teams across Human Genetics and Genomics to influence portfolio and pipeline decisions.
  • Staying informed about recent research in the field and considering its potential applications within GSK.
  • Contributing to a culture of innovation, quality, and willingness to learn and improve.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Excellent programming skills in R or Python, and knowledge of reproducible research techniques.
  • Experience in evaluating, improving, testing, and/or developing statistical methods for large-scale genetics or genomics data analysis.
  • Experience with genetic, genomic, epigenomic, or experimental/functional genomic data.
  • Strong communication and team-working skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with machine learning and/or advanced statistical methods.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.
  • Experience with integrating information across multiple genetic and genomic data types.
  • Experience with analysis of very large datasets using distributed or cloud computing technologies.
