This paid internship is designed for students majoring in relevant fields who are eager to contribute to scientific and engineering analysis applications.

Responsibilities

  • Support object-oriented C++ software development in various domains.
  • Implement, understand, and maintain mathematical and scientific software libraries.
  • Collaborate with small teams or work independently on software projects.
  • Rapidly learn new languages, tools, and techniques as needed to meet mission requirements.

Requirements

  • Majoring in computer science, physics, math, engineering, or a related field.
  • Software development experience in C++.
  • Ability to implement, understand, and maintain mathematical and scientific software libraries.
  • Must be available for full-time employment within a year of completing this internship.
  • U.S. citizen willing to undergo background investigation and perform some work at government or customer sites.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cross-platform software development on Linux and Windows.
  • 3D graphics using Open Scene Graph and/or OpenGL.
  • User interface development with Qt, Java Swing, or GWT.
  • Experience with supercomputing, CUDA, OpenMP, MPI, threads.
  • Familiarity with Google Closure or similar tools for large-scale JavaScript development.
  • Knowledge of OSGi, Orekit, or Apache Commons Math.
  • Experience in image processing, imagery analysis, or computer vision.
  • Understanding of aerospace vehicles, orbital mechanics, electromagnetics, and/or space domain awareness.
  • Experience in directed energy modeling and simulation.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD).
