About the position

The Translational Medicine function at Genentech is dedicated to transforming patient care through innovative and rigorous translational science. We aim to catalyze the development of new medicines, accelerate drug development timelines, and discover new therapeutic strategies. To achieve this vision, we are seeking a highly motivated Scientist 3 to lead lab-based translational research and discovery efforts in oncology. This hands-on position requires close collaboration with various departments within Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED), including Molecular/Discovery Oncology, Cancer Immunology, Cellular & Tissue Genomics, Computational Sciences, Functional Genomics, NGS, and Proteomics. As a Scientist 3, you will be responsible for designing and executing in vitro and in vivo experiments to validate biological and therapeutic hypotheses derived from clinical biomarker data and real-world data. You will elucidate mechanisms of action to gain a deeper understanding of fundamental disease biology. Additionally, you will identify, evaluate, and validate novel cell-based and biochemical assays, genome engineering techniques, and multi-omic assays, including single-cell platforms, to enable hypothesis testing at scale. Collaboration with subject matter experts across gRED will be essential to synthesize, integrate, and interpret experimental and computational findings, informing decision-making on key projects and programs. You will also be expected to independently build new connections and collaborations with colleagues across diverse functional areas to access new technologies, methods, or data that drive translational innovation. This role requires a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, Cell/Molecular Biology, Immunology, or related disciplines, or a MS degree with 4+ years of relevant experience. A deep understanding of cancer biology, genetics, and oncogenic signaling pathways is crucial, along with demonstrated experience in leading lab-based research projects involving various experimental techniques. The ideal candidate will possess excellent time management skills, a meticulous approach to experimental design, and strong communication abilities.
