About the position

GTI Energy, the nation's leading research, development, deployment, and training organization serving energy markets, has an opportunity for a Scientist in our Zero Emission Systems Team. This unit performs research, development, and demonstrations focused on greenhouse gas emission quantification & mitigation, energy infrastructure integrity, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, procedural review, renewable energy, hydrogen adoption, and technology validation and integration. The qualified candidate will conduct research and support data analysis tasks for a wide variety of projects across methane emissions and natural gas infrastructure, collaborating with other scientists and engineers on cutting-edge projects focused on minimizing environmental impacts of energy systems. The ideal candidate is an early career technical professional passionate about conducting data analysis and research on energy systems and emissions mitigation topics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for research projects on methane emissions and natural gas infrastructure topics specifically with energy systems modelling and data science applications.
  • Conduct data analysis and research using appropriate modelling and data science tools. Independently plan and conduct work requiring judgment and independent evaluation.
  • Provide interpretation of complex data analysis and explanation of analytical methods for use by a non-expert audience. Effectively communicate to different sets of stakeholders, developing data visualizations, summaries and presentations.
  • Support proposal development process and assist with identifying new technical and/or business areas.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders including government agencies, other non-profit organizations, industry groups, and academic institutions.
  • Potential for travel for industry events, customer site visits, field demonstrations or testing.
  • Safety first mindset. Attends safety meetings, safety training, and applies safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong data science background
  • Energy systems modelling, data science - curation, data analytics, and visualizations
  • Knowledge of energy and environmental policies and understanding of energy systems and associated emissions
  • Experience with data analysis on energy/environmental projects preferred
  • Self-starter capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects independently with ability to meet project milestones and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong teamworking skills with collaborative mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and interest in energy and emissions-related topics
