About the position

The Scientist I in gRNA Analytical Development at Tessera Therapeutics is responsible for advancing and establishing analytical methods for characterizing RNA molecules, particularly oligonucleotides. This role involves applying a diverse set of analytical assays, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing scientific input in various settings. The position requires a strong background in analytical chemistry, particularly in LC-MS and HPLC, and emphasizes the importance of effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Advance existing and establish new methods using mass spectrometry and HPLC to characterize RNA molecules (oligonucleotides).
  • Represent the Analytical Development team in cross-functional meetings, presenting results and providing scientific input as needed.
  • Participate in in-depth investigations, including orthogonal method evaluation, understanding oligonucleotide stability, and characterizing impurities in a CMC setting.
  • Explore new technology and software to strengthen and streamline oligonucleotide characterization workflows.
  • Maintain external awareness of advances in the field through keeping updated on relevant publications, attending conferences and workshops.
  • Effectively collaborate within the Analytical team and with other functional teams.
  • Use scientific and technical expertise for instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Train and mentor junior scientists as needed.
  • Perform assays, analyze, interpret, and report results in appropriate format (ELN, analytical reports, and presentations).
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • BS in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or relevant discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience, or M.S. with 6+ years relevant industry experience, or PhD with 1+ years industry experience.
  • Strong background in LC-MS (required) and HPLC preferable.
  • Experience in RNA or Oligonucleotide analytical chemistry and biophysical techniques (required).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret written material, including tables and spreadsheets, as well as quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of personal and spatial organization.
  • A learning and betterment mindset.
