About the position

The Scientist II, Analytical Chemistry position at Thermo Fisher Scientific involves supporting the Gibco Bioproduction Analytics Team in the design and commercialization of new cell culture media and media supplement products. The role requires applying chemistry skills to conduct established assays and develop novel analytical methods, contributing to innovative solutions in the field of analytical chemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Operate autonomously or with limited guidance from supervisors or senior researchers to analyze.
  • Participate in analytical method development, optimization, and validation as needed to develop new assays.
  • Initiate and/or participate in process improvement projects such as updating processes and/or equipment to improve efficiencies and support business needs.
  • Assist in troubleshooting existing products and work with internal and external customers to implement solutions.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain analytical instrumentation (contacting instrument manufacturers when needed).
  • Follow all company safety, training, and quality regulations and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate lab notebooks and follow Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technological and practical advancements in the field of analytical chemistry as they pertain to cellular processes.
  • Regularly communicate plans, actions, and results with the manager and other leaders.

Requirements

  • Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or other related field: B.S. degree and a minimum of 2 years industry experience, or M.S. degree.
  • Previous experience with chromatography techniques such as HPLC/UHPLC, LC-MS, or IC technology is required.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of chemistry principles, such as acid/base chemistry, sample solubility, and precipitation, as it relates to sample preparation is desired.
  • Previous hands-on experience with other analytical chemistry techniques for example, ICP-MS, FTIR, XRF or SEM would be a differentiator.
  • Experience with HPLC methods for quantitation of charge variant, protein aggregation and N-glycan profiling is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate scientific results in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
  • Excellent computer skills with programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including efficient evaluation and management of multiple project tasks.
