About the position

The Scientist - Microbiologist position at Small Molecule Analytical Research and Development (SMARD) is designed for a highly motivated individual to support the company's diverse portfolio, including small molecules, biologics, and vaccines. The role involves collaboration with stakeholders, routine testing, validations, and the implementation of alternative microbiological methods within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment. The candidate will leverage their knowledge in microbiology to contribute to various projects and enhance team effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Support the rapidly growing pipeline via collaboration with stakeholders for various projects.
• Conduct routine testing, validations, and implementation of alternate microbiological methods.
• Plan, execute, and evaluate GMP microbiological analyses including microorganism identification, endotoxin, and bioburden determinations.
• Support smaller laboratory projects including inventory management, documentation support, and equipment qualification/maintenance/calibration.
• Document and manage analytical results according to applicable GMP requirements.
• Demonstrate strong aseptic skills and techniques.
• Troubleshoot and think critically to solve complex problems.
• Support quality investigations and change management processes.
• Participate in internal and external audit processes.

Requirements

• BS in Microbiology or related Biological Sciences.
• 1-2+ years of industry experience in microbiology.
• In-depth understanding of microbiology compendial testing.
• Desire and willingness to learn and contribute to teams with cross-functional interactions.
• Experience in planning, executing, and evaluating GMP microbiological analyses.
• Strong aseptic skills and techniques.
• Ability to troubleshoot and think critically.
• Experience in supporting quality investigations and change management.
• Familiarity with data integrity principles.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with microbial examination of non-sterile products and gowning procedures.
