About the position

As a Scientist at Pfizer, you will play a crucial role in the Research and Development team, focusing on laboratory and pilot-scale process characterization and optimization studies. Your work will contribute to the development of new and improved processes for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), ensuring quality and efficiency in drug manufacturing. You will collaborate with engineers and chemists to design and implement novel equipment systems, supporting the advancement of cutting-edge therapies and vaccines that change patients' lives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory and pilot-scale process characterization and optimization studies.
  • Develop new and improved processes for the research and development of drugs.
  • Contribute to the design and performance aspects of manufacturing facilities and equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers, chemists, and analysts to develop new equipment prototypes.
  • Manage CRD manufacturing areas, equipment, and utilities, ensuring compliance with quality systems.
  • Draft, review, and own change records for process changes.
  • Author, review, and approve regulated documents describing system functionality and configuration.
  • Support continuous manufacturing initiatives and provide design support for API manufacturing technologies.
  • Develop and execute commissioning and validation protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Work with EHS representatives to identify and mitigate safety risks associated with new equipment systems.
  • Troubleshoot processes and equipment as needed.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in process engineering/supervision or process development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of cGMP and process safety.
  • Working knowledge of chemical engineering principles including reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transport, and equipment design.
  • Experience using automated flow reactors and associated equipment.
  • Experience in authoring laboratory and/or manufacturing process tech transfer instructions.
  • Experience with process control systems (Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell, etc.) and historian systems such as Aveva PI.
