About the position

The Scientist - Product Development Innovation role at Abbott focuses on conducting independent research to develop innovative nutritional products. The position involves planning, designing, and executing experiments related to ingredients and formulations, with the goal of enhancing health outcomes and user experience. Responsibilities

  • Conceives, plans, designs, and conducts independent research on ingredients, formulations, and processes related to nutritional product development.
  • Follows direction provided by project goals and experimental design.
  • Weighs ingredients and prepares research batches in the pilot plant or lab.
  • Performs batch calculations, prepares weigh sheets, and manufacturing instructions.
  • Coordinates testing and monitors, organizes, and interprets results.
  • Draws conclusions, makes adjustments, and implements improvements to formulations.
  • Recognizes problems, troubleshoots, and initiates corrective actions.
  • Communicates technical results to project teams.
  • Authors summary reports on technical findings, when applicable.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Math, Food Engineering, or related scientific field, or M.S./B.S. with 3-7 years relevant industry experience.
  • Outstanding background in Science and Math, with emphasis in food and protein chemistry, emulsion stability, ingredients interactions, lipid oxidation, and antioxidants.
  • Strong scientific curiosity and enjoyment of experimentation.
  • Ability to generate and translate innovative concepts into technically feasible and consumer-relevant products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with data analysis software.
  • Ability to communicate technical results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Team-oriented with high energy and a desire to achieve results.
