About the position

Aptiv plc is seeking a SCM Purchasing Controller/Continuous Improvement Manager to join our team in Troy, MI. This role is pivotal in supporting the functional director in driving improvement activities that lead to cost savings in the Material line. The Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager will establish both strategic and tactical improvement goals that align with our business objectives. This position requires collaboration with Supply Chain Management (SCM) teams across various sites and regions to operationalize these goals and ensure their successful execution. The CI Manager will also be responsible for establishing a robust management system to track progress and early detect performance risks through the Risks and Opportunities (R&O) process. A significant focus of this role will be on implementing and improving compliance with the Aptiv Operating System in SCM areas, including Lean 2.0 initiatives, digitalization, and other continuous improvement initiatives. The CI Manager will be tasked with researching and developing proposals aimed at enhancing processes, systems, and results within the SCM team. This position will oversee a team of 5-8 employees and will report directly to the SCM Director EMEA. The CI Manager will engage in various duties, including developing tactical and strategic plans, liaising with finance for accurate reporting, and ensuring compliance with Aptiv's reporting procedures. The role also involves defining and implementing improvement projects to reduce material costs and enhance purchasing processes, driving digitalization projects, and coaching the purchasing team on accounting and financial planning aspects. Travel to plants and sites will be required to facilitate improvement workshops and kaizen projects, with an expected travel rate of up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Support functional director on developing tactical and strategic plans to reach performance goals in Material line
  • Work with respective sub teams and plants to implement these plans
  • Develop robust management system to track the progress and early detect the risks to performance
  • Liaise with finance organization to assure consistent, accurate and reliable reporting and understanding of variances
  • Develop and implement robust forecasting process for functional KPIs and liaise with finance
  • Assure compliance to Aptiv reporting procedures and guidelines
  • Standardize areas which lack consistency of reporting in different sites
  • Support functional director of SCM in developing BBP and Declaration goals every year
  • Liaise with Sales commercial team to ensure alignment between material cost and sales price evolution
  • Define and implement improvement projects related to reducing material cost
  • Define and implement improvement projects related to purchasing processes to remove waste
  • Drive digitalization project from definition to implementation
  • Coach Purchasing team on accounting and FP&A aspects
  • Revise and upgrade SCM operating system processes and procedures to the current state
  • Develop and implement training and certification program for all purchasing team in EMEA
  • Travel to plants and sites to drive improvement workshops and kaizen projects

Requirements

  • Must be legally able to work in the U.S. without any visa sponsorship/transfer requirement now or in the future
  • Local residency in the metro Detroit area required, with ability to work on site
  • Master Degree in Business, Finance or Economics
  • 10 years of work experience with at least 5 years in a senior managerial role
  • Work experience in areas of finance operations planning or financial controlling
  • Managerial work experience in Automotive supplier or OEM for at least 5 years in Supply Chain, Operations or PC&L
  • Understanding and ability to build financial models, business cases and assess profitability of projects
  • Understanding and experience of managerial accounting
