About the position

The Certified Medical Assistant/Scribe at Hackensack Meridian Health plays a crucial role in providing clinical care under the supervision of physicians and practice managers. This role requires meticulous documentation of clinician and patient encounters in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), ensuring that all relevant information is accurately captured and communicated. The CMA/Scribe must also seek out missing information from clinicians to complete patient charts and gather pertinent patient information from external sources, such as outpatient lab tests and nursing home records. In addition to scribing duties, the Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for performing various medical assistant tasks. This includes preparing patients for examinations and treatments, taking brief patient histories, recording vital signs, assisting physicians with procedures, drawing blood, obtaining urine specimens, and administering injections as permitted. The CMA is also tasked with coordinating patient care, ensuring timely communication among physicians, patients, and referral sources, and proactively reviewing charts before patient intake. This role emphasizes the importance of patient satisfaction and requires the CMA/Scribe to greet and assist patients and visitors courteously, promoting a positive experience within the practice. Responsibilities

  • Accompany clinicians into patient rooms and transcribe clinician dictations/notes.
  • Actively listen to all conversations pertaining to patient care and document relevant information into the EMR.
  • Document clinician and patient encounters into EMR.
  • Seek out missing information from clinicians to complete the physician chart.
  • Gather and input pertinent patient information from external sources.
  • Place phone calls to physician offices, pharmacies, etc. as requested by the clinician.
  • Keep clinicians informed of resulting diagnostics and troubleshoot delays in those results.
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment; take brief patient history including chief complaint, vital signs, and weight.
  • Assist physician with procedures; draw blood and obtain urine specimens; administer injections as approved for CMAs.
  • Assist the physician with coordinating patient care in the office, hospital, and to referring physicians.
  • Ensure communication among physician, patient, and outside referral sources is accurate and timely.
  • Proactively review charts in advance of patient intake and complete all authorized patient chart documentation accurately and timely.
  • Initiate phone calls to ensure patients are provided with all necessary information and inform patients of test results according to guidelines.
  • Prepare exam rooms with necessary materials and equipment.
  • Greet and assist patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous manner.
  • Promote patient satisfaction through excellent service and friendly interactions.
  • Prioritize and complete clinical assignments within office guidelines.
  • Respond to various messages as directed by the provider.
  • Manage inventory and supplies as needed.
  • Comply with all state, federal, and HMH regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the practice and support coworkers.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Superb listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
  • Certified Medical Assistant or equivalent certification.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years prior medical office experience.
