About the position

As a Scrum Lead within the Information Technology Division at American Airlines, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Corporate Security Technology team. This position is designed for individuals who are not only passionate about technology but also possess strong leadership skills. You will be responsible for empowering your squad, ensuring that they can effectively deliver and support solutions for the Corporate Security Product. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within an autonomous, self-organizing, and self-governing product team, where you will be instrumental in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and agile practices. In this position, you will serve as a key member of the Corporate Security Technology product leadership team. Your primary responsibilities will include facilitating agile ceremonies, mentoring team members, and ensuring that the squad maintains a healthy backlog of work. You will work closely with product stakeholders to prioritize tasks and protect the squad from distractions, allowing them to focus on delivering customer value. Additionally, you will be expected to perform operations support duties in rotation with the team, contributing to the overall success of the squad. This role requires a commitment to excellence and a relentless focus on creating high-performing teams. You will be expected to adapt to changing priorities and work environments, demonstrating flexibility and initiative in your approach. As a Scrum Lead, you will not only guide your team in agile methodologies but also contribute to the velocity of the squad by delivering on the product backlog. Your leadership will be crucial in ensuring that the team thrives and meets the demands of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of the Corporate Security Technology product leadership team
  • Empower the squad and remove impediments that prevent the squad from bringing work to 'done'
  • Ensure regular visioning, road mapping, and planning sessions provide the squad with a healthy backlog of work in collaboration with product stakeholders
  • Protect the squad from distraction and context switching by sharing and supporting the squad's processes and working agreements
  • Focus on continuous improvement for the squad and the organization
  • Become an expert in, and facilitate, all agile ceremonies for the team
  • Mentor and coach team to ensure successful use of Agile @ American practices
  • Contribute to the velocity of the squad by delivering on the product backlog
  • Maintain a relentless focus on customer value
  • Perform operations support duties in rotation with the team
  • Travel as necessary, up to 10%

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 5 years of IT experience
  • 4 years of experience participating in the delivery of IT solutions using Agile and DevOps
  • 3 years of experience managing or developing applications hosted in a Cloud Environment
  • 3 years of experience leading initiatives or teams, either formally or informally

Nice-to-haves

  • A mastery of agile practices including product management and product ownership fundamentals
  • A firm understanding of DevOps best practices and ability to coach the squad in these areas
  • Experience with a modern Agile Backlog and Work Tracking system—Microsoft ADO expertise preferred
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments
  • Relentless in creating high-performing squads and organizations
