About the position

The Scrum Master for API Development & Integration at CareFirst plays a crucial role in leading multiple cross-functional teams through Agile methodologies, particularly within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This position is integral to the company's digital transformation efforts, focusing on enhancing team performance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration across teams. The Scrum Master will facilitate various Agile ceremonies, remove impediments, and support the Product Owner in managing the backlog, all while promoting a Lean-Agile mindset throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the team's progress toward goals and engages in improving team performance metrics.
  • Acts as a team facilitator and challenges old ways of working to enhance quality and predictability.
  • Leads team efforts in relentless improvement and facilitates team retrospectives.
  • Teaches problem-solving techniques to help the team become better problem-solvers.
  • Facilitates team meetings such as Daily Stand-up, Iteration Planning, and Iteration Retrospective.
  • Ensures adherence to the Definition of Done and other team agreements.
  • Facilitates discussion, decision-making, and conflict resolution within the team.
  • Eliminates impediments by engaging the right stakeholders within the organization.
  • Supports internal and external communication to improve transparency.
  • Coordinates work with other teams to improve flow and throughput.
  • Represents the team in Scrum of Scrums and other ceremonies to plan and execute work.
  • Helps the team build effective relationships with supporting teams like User Experience and Architecture.
  • Supports the Product Owner in managing the backlog and guiding the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 additional years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5 years of experience using Agile/Scrum/Lean/SAFe practices in IT delivery.
  • SAFe Scrum Master Certification (upon hire preferred).
  • Certified Scrum Master (Scrum Alliance) (upon hire required).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a Scrum Master or Kanban practitioner in a prior role.
  • Experience being part of a SAFe Agile Release Train.
