About the position

As a Scrum Master for the Core API Platforms at Marriott, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the way the world experiences travel. This position is centered around the GraphQL API platform team, where you will be responsible for delivering projects that meet Marriott's high standards of quality and efficiency. Your primary focus will be on coordinating tasks, unblocking barriers, and ensuring that technology projects progress seamlessly at an enterprise level. You will manage development sprints from planning through execution and review, facilitating daily scrums and collaborating on requirement documentation to keep the team aligned and moving forward. In this dynamic role, you will engage with key stakeholders, including executives, clients, and partners, to provide regular updates, gather feedback, and ensure that project objectives are met. You will also coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams, Product Owners, and other Scrum Masters to foster decision-making and continuous improvement. Your daily activities will include facilitating all scrum events such as Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Refinement, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective. You will be responsible for ensuring that Scrum is understood and adhered to by the team, contributing to the advancement of Agile practices within the organization, and acting as a servant leader to guide the Agile Team in delivering high-quality products and services. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying impediments and resolving them, as well as maintaining effective communication with Product Managers to track progress and manage dependencies.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects on time and within budget while meeting Marriott's expectations.
  • Coordinate tasks and unblock barriers related to technology projects at an enterprise level.
  • Manage development sprints from planning to execution to review in an agile development environment.
  • Run daily scrums and collaborate on requirement documentation.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to provide updates and gather feedback.
  • Coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams and Product Owners.
  • Facilitate and support all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Refinement, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
  • Ensure Scrum is understood and the team adheres to Scrum theory, practice, and guidelines.
  • Contribute to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organization.
  • Proactively identify impediments and resolve them using a network of peers or escalation if needed.
  • Partner with Product Managers to maintain plans and communicate progress of the team.
  • Guide and coach the Scrum Team on Lean and Agile practices to deliver high-quality products.
  • Resolve team impediments with other Scrum Masters to increase effectiveness.
  • Work with product owners to handle backlogs and new requests.
  • Optimize team performance by recognizing areas of strength and improvement.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, equivalent experience, or certification.
  • 7+ years' experience in applying Agile and Scrum principles within teams and/or organizations.
  • 7+ years planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams.
  • 7+ years experience working within agile framework or method (ie SAFe, Scrum, Kanban).
  • 5+ years creating and delivering presentations, PowerPoint decks, and project plans.
  • 2+ years working with tools such as Atlassian (JIRA/Confluence), Clarity and/or Cloud-based platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).

Nice-to-haves

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) or PMI's Agile Certified Professional (ACP).
  • SAFe certified - SAFe Agilist or SAFe Scrum Master.
  • Servant leadership experience as Scrum Master on an Agile Release Train.
  • Familiarity with product/project development experience on Agile Teams in a technology-focused organization.
  • Ability to align change management strategies with product development/deployments.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Ability to understand and represent both the business and technology.
