About the position

As a Scrum Master for the Core API Platforms at Marriott, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the way the world experiences travel. This position is centered around the GraphQL API platform team, where you will be responsible for delivering projects that meet Marriott's high standards of excellence. Your primary focus will be on coordinating tasks and removing barriers that hinder progress on technology projects at an enterprise level. You will manage development sprints from planning through execution and review, ensuring that the team adheres to Agile methodologies and maintains momentum throughout the project lifecycle. In this dynamic role, you will engage with key stakeholders, including executives, clients, and partners, to provide regular updates, gather feedback, and ensure alignment with project objectives. You will also coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams, Product Owners, and other Scrum Masters to foster decision-making and continuous improvement. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy working collaboratively within a team that is committed to growth and innovation. Your daily activities will include facilitating all Scrum events such as Sprint Planning, Daily Scrums, Refinement, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives. You will be responsible for ensuring that Scrum is understood and practiced within the team, contributing to the advancement of Agile practices across the organization. As a servant leader, you will guide the Agile Team, support the Release Train Engineer, and work closely with Product Managers to maintain project plans and communicate progress effectively. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying and resolving impediments, optimizing team performance, and driving the adoption of Agile methodologies throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects on time and within budget while meeting Marriott's expectations.
  • Coordinate tasks and unblock barriers related to technology projects at an enterprise level.
  • Manage development sprints from planning to execution to review in an agile development environment.
  • Run daily scrums and collaborate on requirement documentation.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to provide updates and gather feedback.
  • Coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams and Product Owners.
  • Facilitate and support all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Refinement, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
  • Contribute to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organization.
  • Act as a servant leader of the Agile Team and direct the initiative delivery team.
  • Partner with Product Managers to maintain plans and communicate progress of the team.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, equivalent experience, or certification.
  • 7+ years' experience in applying Agile and Scrum principles within teams and/or organizations.
  • 7+ years planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams.
  • 7+ years experience working within agile framework or method (ie SAFe, Scrum, Kanban).
  • 5+ years creating and delivering presentations, PowerPoint decks, and project plans.
  • 2+ years working with tools such as Atlassian (JIRA/Confluence), Clarity and/or Cloud-based platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).

Nice-to-haves

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) or PMI's Agile Certified Professional (ACP).
  • SAFe certified - SAFe Agilist or SAFe Scrum Master.
  • Servant leadership experience as Scrum Master on an Agile Release Train.
  • Familiarity with product/project development experience on Agile Teams in a technology-focused organization.
  • Ability to align change management strategies with product development/deployments.
