About the position

As a Scrum Master II at Marriott, you will play a pivotal role in managing the development sprints from planning through execution and review within an agile development environment. Your responsibilities will include running daily scrums, collaborating on requirement documentation, and unblocking barriers to ensure the team remains productive. You will coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams, Product Owners, and other Scrum Masters to foster decision-making and continuous improvement. This position requires strong leadership abilities to guide the development of agile capabilities within the Global Technology organization and across Marriott's diverse portfolio of products. You will be expected to have an expert-level understanding of SAFe Agile Scrum principles and practices, as well as an awareness of the unique opportunities and challenges that come with organizing, facilitating, and continuously aligning teams with the guiding business strategy. This specific role will support one or more of the Technology Workplace Products agile teams. In this position, you will facilitate and support all scrum events, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective. You will be responsible for ensuring that Scrum is understood and that the team adheres to Scrum theory, practice, and guidelines. Additionally, you will contribute to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organization, working closely with Agile coaches and other Scrum Masters to grow within your role. As a servant leader of the Agile Team, you will direct the initiative delivery team and partner with Product Managers to maintain plans and communicate the team's progress, which includes product roadmaps, scrum team metrics, and program/project status reporting. Your role will also involve guiding and coaching the Scrum Team on how to effectively use Agile practices and principles to deliver high-quality products and services to our customers. You will resolve team impediments in collaboration with other Scrum Masters to enhance the effectiveness of Scrum application within the organization. Working with product owners, you will manage backlogs and new requests, optimizing team performance by recognizing areas of strength and improvement and employing appropriate coaching and development techniques. Furthermore, you will support the development of behavioral change management, communications, and training as needed to drive process and tool adoption, implementation, and compliance. Collaboration with key stakeholder groups will be essential to validate the effectiveness of standard processes and continuously improve process quality.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and supports all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, equivalent experience, or certification.
  • SAFe 6.0 Certification - SA, PO/PM, etc. (Scaled Agile).
  • 7+ years of information technology experience.
  • 5+ years applying Agile and Scrum principles within teams and/or organizations using agile metrics to analyze and improve sprint planning.
  • 5+ years' experience working within agile framework or method (i.e. SAFe, Scrum, Kanban).
  • 5+ years' planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams.
  • 5+ years creating and delivering presentations and project plans.
  • 2+ years working with tools such as Atlassian (JIRA/Confluence), Microsoft M365 suite, and/or Cloud-based platforms (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud).

Nice-to-haves

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) or PMI's Agile Certified Professional (ACP).
  • Servant leadership experience as Scrum Master on an Agile Release Train.
  • Familiarity with product/project development experience on Agile Teams in a technology-focused organization.
  • Ability to align change management strategies with product development/deployments.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization and an understanding of facilitation techniques.
  • Ability to understand and represent both the business and technology.
  • Thrives in a highly collaborative, matrixed, complex, fast-paced environment.
