About the position

The Scrum Master II at GM Financial plays a crucial role in guiding and coaching Scrum Teams to apply agile values and principles effectively. This position is integral to the company's tech modernization efforts, ensuring that teams are empowered to deliver high-quality results while adhering to the Scrum Framework. The Scrum Master will facilitate communication, remove impediments, and support the Product Owner in managing the product backlog, all while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Guiding and coaching the Scrum Teams on how to apply agile values and principles, and use the Scrum Framework to delight customers.
  • Protecting the development team from outside influences and removing impediments.
  • Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
  • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
  • Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with respect to refining and ordering the product backlog.
  • Working closely with the Product Owner to ensure product backlog is visible and prioritized towards business value.
  • Facilitating various Scrum events such as: Daily Scrum, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives.
  • Conforming with all company policies and procedures.
  • Empowering the team to be self-organized.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks including Scrum.
  • Certifications in Scrum Master Certification CSM, or PSM I, or PMI-ACP.
  • Demonstrated servant leadership mindset.
  • Proficient in the use of Agile delivery tools such as TFS, Jira, or Azure DevOps.
  • Demonstrated evidence of continuous learning mindset.
  • High Emotional Intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills).
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to understand and diverse viewpoints.
  • Ability to teach and train on Agile, Scrum, Kanban at a level accessible to beginners.
  • Good understanding of product and sprint backlog tracking, burn down metrics, and velocity.
  • Good negotiation, leadership, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand GM Financial's business; apply knowledge and critical thinking skills in day-to-day problems and solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree or additional equivalent work or military experience preferred.
  • 2-4 years working as a project manager or in a similar role leading through influence required.
