About the position

As a Scrum Master II at Marriott, you will play a pivotal role in managing the development sprints from planning through execution and review within an agile development environment. Your responsibilities will include running daily scrums, collaborating on requirement documentation, and unblocking barriers to ensure the team remains productive. You will coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams, Product Owners, and other Scrum Masters to foster decision-making and continuous improvement. This position specifically supports Infrastructure and Cloud Delivery and has a dual reporting relationship with the Infrastructure Cloud Delivery (ICD) and the Agile Center of Excellence (COE). Your leadership abilities will be crucial in guiding the development of agile capabilities within the Global Technology organization and across Marriott's extensive portfolio of products. In this role, you will support one or more software delivery teams using Scrum or Kanban methodologies. You will facilitate all scrum events, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Refinement, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective. It is your responsibility to ensure that Scrum is understood and that the team adheres to Scrum theory, practices, and guidelines. You will contribute to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organization, working closely with Agile coaches and other Scrum Masters to grow in your role. As a servant leader of the Agile Team, you will direct the initiative delivery team and partner with Product Managers to maintain plans and communicate the team's progress, including product roadmaps, scrum team metrics, and program/project status reporting. Your role will also involve guiding and coaching the Scrum Team on how to effectively use Lean and Agile practices and principles to deliver high-quality products and services to customers. You will work with product owners to manage backlogs and new requests, optimizing team performance by recognizing areas of strength and improvement. Additionally, you will support the development of behavioral change management, communications, and training as needed to drive process and tool adoption, implementation, and compliance. Collaboration with key stakeholder groups will be essential to validate the effectiveness of standard processes and continuously improve process quality. Overall, your contributions will be vital in ensuring that process-related activities align with company needs and drive successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage development sprints from planning to execution and review in an agile environment.
  • Run daily scrums and collaborate on requirement documentation.
  • Unblock barriers to keep the team moving forward.
  • Coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams and Product Owners.
  • Facilitate all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Refinement, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
  • Ensure Scrum is understood and adhered to by the team.
  • Contribute to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organization.
  • Partner with Product Managers to maintain plans and communicate team progress.
  • Proactively identify impediments and resolve them using a network of peers or escalation if needed.
  • Support Release Train Engineer, Product, and Tech teams to manage and remove dependencies.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, equivalent experience, or certification.
  • 7+ years of information technology experience.
  • 4+ years of Agile Delivery experience using Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe methodologies.
  • 4+ years of planning and problem-solving with product management and delivery teams.
  • 4+ years of creating and delivering presentations and project plans.
  • 2+ years working with tools such as Atlassian (JIRA/Confluence), Clarity, and/or Cloud-based platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud).

Nice-to-haves

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), or PMI's Agile Certified Professional (ACP).
  • SAFe certified - SAFe Agilist or SAFe Scrum Master.
  • Servant leadership experience as Scrum Master on an Agile Release Train.
  • Familiarity with product/project development experience on Agile Teams in a technology-focused organization.
  • Ability to align change management strategies with product development/deployments.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Ability to understand and represent both the business and technology.
  • Thrives in a highly collaborative, matrixed, complex, fast-paced environment.
