About the position

As a Scrum Master II at Marriott, you will play a pivotal role in managing the development sprints from planning through execution and review within an agile development environment. Your responsibilities will include running daily scrums, collaborating on requirement documentation, and removing barriers to ensure the team remains productive. You will coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams, Product Owners, and other Scrum Masters to foster decision-making and continuous improvement. This position requires strong leadership abilities and a deep understanding of SAFe Agile Scrum principles and practices, as you will be guiding the development of agile capabilities within the Global Technology organization and across Marriott's diverse portfolio of products. You will specifically support one or more of the Technology Workplace Products agile teams, ensuring alignment with the guiding business strategy and addressing the unique challenges that arise in this context. In this role, you will facilitate and support all scrum events, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective. You will be responsible for ensuring that Scrum is understood and that the team adheres to Scrum theory, practices, and guidelines. Your contributions will be vital in advancing and improving Agile practices within the organization, working closely with Agile coaches and other Scrum Masters to enhance your skills and effectiveness. As a servant leader of the Agile Team, you will direct the initiative delivery team and partner with Product Managers to maintain plans and communicate the team's progress, including product roadmaps and scrum team metrics. You will guide and coach the Scrum Team on how to effectively use Agile practices and principles to deliver high-quality products and services to our customers. Resolving team impediments and optimizing team performance will be key aspects of your role, as you will work with product owners to manage backlogs and new requests. Your ability to influence and drive decision-making will be crucial in supporting organizational project or product teams, and you will also play a role in developing behavioral change management strategies to ensure successful process and tool adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Manage development sprints from planning to execution and review in an agile environment.
  • Run daily scrums and collaborate on requirement documentation.
  • Unblock barriers to keep the team moving forward.
  • Coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams and Product Owners.
  • Foster decision-making and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Facilitate all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
  • Ensure Scrum is understood and adhered to by the team.
  • Contribute to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organization.
  • Partner with Product Managers to maintain plans and communicate team progress.
  • Develop high-level business requirements and cost estimates for initiatives.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, equivalent experience, or certification.
  • SAFe 6.0 Certification - SA, PO/PM, etc. (Scaled Agile).
  • 7+ years of information technology experience.
  • 5+ years applying Agile and Scrum principles within teams and/or organizations.
  • 5+ years working within agile frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban).
  • 5+ years of planning and problem-solving with product management and delivery teams.
  • 5+ years creating and delivering presentations and project plans.
  • 2+ years working with tools such as Atlassian (JIRA/Confluence), Microsoft M365 suite, and/or Cloud-based platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), or PMI's Agile Certified Professional (ACP).
  • Servant leadership experience as Scrum Master on an Agile Release Train.
  • Familiarity with product/project development experience in a technology-focused organization.
  • Ability to align change management strategies with product development.
  • Experience facilitating meetings at multiple organizational levels.
  • Ability to understand and represent both business and technology needs.
  • Thrives in a highly collaborative, matrixed, complex, fast-paced environment.
