About the position

GOVCIO is seeking a motivated Scrum Master with over 10 years of experience to facilitate scrum ceremonies, coach, and mentor team members, assist Product Owners in managing their backlog, and support Sprint Planning and release planning. This position is fully remote within the United States, allowing for flexibility while contributing to a dynamic team focused on transforming government IT. The Scrum Master will play a crucial role in driving effective scrum ceremonies, including daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. They will also be responsible for tracking and distributing relevant metrics to report on team progress and velocity, ensuring that the team remains on track to meet their goals. In this role, the Scrum Master will identify, understand, and track impediments, helping to remove them and drive improvements to optimize team performance. They will work closely with the Product Owner to manage customer expectations and stakeholder communications, acting as a liaison between the team and external parties to minimize interruptions during sprints. The Scrum Master will represent the team in Scrum of Scrum meetings, cross-team planning, and risk mitigation discussions, ensuring that the team is well-prepared for PI Planning and guiding them through the event to complete all tasks effectively. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a growth mindset, coaching the team and Product Owner on how to improve their practices and excel at scale. They will facilitate communication and collaboration between Scrum teams, product owners, and other stakeholders, including cybersecurity and operations, to ensure a cohesive approach to project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Drive effective scrum ceremonies including daily standup, backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Track and distribute relevant metrics and report periodically to show team progress and velocity.
  • Identify, understand, and track impediments; help remove them and drive improvements to optimize how the team works.
  • Help the Product Owner manage customer expectations and stakeholder communications.
  • Act as a liaison between the team and everyone else to minimize interruptions to the sprint, keeping the team focused on delivering a quality product on time.
  • Represent the team in the Scrum of Scrum, cross team planning, and Risk mitigation meetings.
  • Help the team prepare for PI Planning and guide the team during the event to complete all their tasks.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by coaching the team and Product Owner on how to improve their practices to excel at scale.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between Scrum teams, product owners, and other stakeholders including cybersecurity and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Information Technology, or related fields.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Agile SCRUM development products.
  • 10+ years of experience with agile software development, agile methodologies, software development life cycle management, and cross-functional team.
  • Experience training and managing Scrum teams.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible in a cross-functional environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead retrospectives, document outcomes, and guide team members in best practices.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience or certifications a plus.
  • Experience working on API teams a plus.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Experience in JIRA, Confluence, and/or Slack SAFe Scrum Master & SAFe for Teams, SAFe PO/PM or SAFe Advanced Scrum Master & SAFe for Government, SAFe PO/PM.

Nice-to-haves

  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience or certifications.
  • Experience working on API teams.
