About the position

The Scrum Master at Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Agile teams within the financial sector. This position focuses on driving member-centric solutions, improving time to market, and delivering valuable features across various digital and core banking platforms. The Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating Scrum ceremonies, coaching Agile teams, and ensuring adherence to governance standards while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Agile/Scrum ceremonies and processes for the department.
  • Ensure productive scrum ceremonies including daily scrums, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Support the team using servant leadership characteristics such as active listening and team building.
  • Mentor teams to align with core Agile principles of collaboration and accountability.
  • Create a trusting environment for problem-solving without fear of blame.
  • Balance sprint plans between support work, technical debt, and new project features.
  • Develop and report on project health metrics to stakeholders.
  • Involve the team in identifying and removing impediments early.
  • Facilitate backlog refinement and work item estimation activities.
  • Guide the team on Agile/Scrum practices and values.
  • Train the team to break work into smaller, value-delivering pieces.
  • Support quality assurance processes and ensure adherence to SDLC standards.
  • Assist in user experience design processes including requirements gathering and user testing.
  • Advise management of any system or service issues affecting member service.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Scrum Master or in a similar role within an Agile environment.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and principles.
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Experience with project management software and Agile metrics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as a Scrum Master (CSM or equivalent).
  • Experience in the financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with user experience design processes.
