About the position

As a Scrum Master at Astrion, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating agile practices within the Engineering, Professional, and Administrative Support Services contract, specifically supporting the Air Force Division. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that the scrum team adheres to agile principles and practices, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and high performance. You will be instrumental in guiding the team through daily standups, sprint planning, and reviews, ensuring that the team remains focused and productive while protecting them from over-commitment and scope creep. Your expertise will help in establishing scrum boards in Jira and utilizing agile metrics to track and report on team performance, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability within the team. In this role, you will also be responsible for identifying areas for improvement and capturing feedback during sprint reviews. You will work closely with team members and stakeholders to resolve any disagreements regarding processes and work styles, ensuring a collaborative and harmonious working environment. Your analytical skills will be crucial as you analyze burndown charts and other portfolio planning tools to understand the team's output and cadence. Additionally, you will facilitate the removal of impediments, manage risks and dependencies, and track the team's progress toward their goals. Participation in scrum of scrums will also be part of your responsibilities, where you will report on team health and progress to higher management. Responsibilities

  • Facilitate daily standups (or the daily scrum)
  • Participate in iteration/sprint planning meetings to protect the team from over-committing and scope creep
  • Aid in estimation and sub-task creation
  • Participate in sprint reviews and capture feedback
  • Note areas for improvement and action items for future sprints
  • Establish scrum boards in Jira and utilize agile metrics to track and report on team performance
  • Meet individually with team members and stakeholders as needed
  • Iron out team disagreements about process and work styles
  • Consult with team members and internal stakeholders on how best to work with the scrum team
  • Analyze burndown charts and other portfolio planning tools to understand what gets built and at what cadence
  • Facilitate the removal of impediments, manage risks and dependencies, and track team's progress toward goals
  • Participate in scrum of scrums and report on team health and progress
  • Assist as needed with Black Label quarterly planning events

Requirements

  • Masters degree and 12 years of directly related experience, of which 5 years must be in DoD; or 15 years of directly related experience in lieu of masters degree, of which 5 years must be in DoD; or 20 years' experience in lieu of degree
  • Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Scrum master experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in scaled agile development environment
  • Continuous development/continuous integration (CD/CI) experience
  • A relevant SAFe certification is preferred
  • Government acquisition experience is preferred
