About the position

The Scrum Master at Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield serves as a servant leader within an agile team, sharing accountability for the delivery of a shared body of work. This role is pivotal in fostering an environment that promotes high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, and relentless improvement. The Scrum Master will facilitate team-level processes, oversee execution, and escalate impediments to ensure the team can achieve its goals. Coordination with other Scrum Masters and Product Owners is essential to maintain alignment and collaboration across teams. In this position, the Scrum Master will coach agile practices and work collaboratively with agile teams and stakeholders to enable the successful delivery of products through well-executed iterations. This includes providing insights into the team's activities and performance while encouraging accountability both within the team and with external stakeholders. The Scrum Master will also assist the team in identifying local stories, maintenance tasks, defects, technical debt, and other necessary work, ensuring that the team is well-prepared for upcoming features and planning intervals. The role requires a strong understanding of Agile frameworks, particularly SAFe, Scrum, and DevOps, and the ability to facilitate various team events effectively. The Scrum Master will guide the team in achieving its goals, help them find solutions independently, and identify and eliminate bottlenecks to maintain a smooth workflow. Additionally, the Scrum Master will participate in and facilitate iteration events, providing insights into methods beyond Scrum, such as Kanban and Flow, to enhance the team's performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist team in identifying local stories, maintenance, defects, tech debt, and other needed work.
  • Assist with Planning Interval (PI) Planning, ensuring team is briefed on upcoming Features and writing draft PI Objectives.
  • Collaborate with other Scrum Masters and Release Train Engineers.
  • Ensure all team events take place, are positive, productive, and within the timebox.
  • Facilitate the implementation of SAFe principles and practices.
  • Guide team to achieve its goals and find solutions independently.
  • Identify and eliminate bottlenecks to flow.
  • Identify and resolve cross-team impediments.
  • Participate in and facilitate iteration events.
  • Provide insight to the team on methods beyond Scrum, such as Kanban, Flow, Built-in Quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline (Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field).
  • In lieu of a degree, five (5) years' relevant experience will be considered.
  • SAFe Agilist (SA) OR SAFe Practitioner (SP) Certification preferred, required within one (1) year.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience working as a Scrum Master, Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Analyst, Project Manager, or equivalent, supporting teams in end-to-end implementation.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, AzureDevOps (ADO), or other software to manage agile programs.
  • Practical knowledge of various coaching tools in team management.
  • Proficient technical knowledge and understanding of Agile frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, DevOps, etc.).
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience using Agile methodologies, preferably SAFe.
