About the position

Geode is seeking a Scrum Master/Player Coach to enhance the performance of agile squads by advising, mentoring, coaching, and training team members on agile values, practices, and processes. This role is pivotal in accelerating squad value delivery and will involve close collaboration with squad members to integrate deep scrum expertise with a commitment to mentoring and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will work alongside the squad leader to maintain a backlog, eliminate impediments, and facilitate essential agile ceremonies, including daily scrum meetings, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives. Additionally, this position will engage in scaling ceremonies and manage interdependencies across various squads and product areas. The Scrum Master/Player Coach will analyze and drive team performance through metrics, identifying opportunities for squads to fully leverage the benefits of an agile framework. As a player/coach, the candidate will dedicate a portion of their time to actively participating as a squad member, applying their expertise to enhance squad and product area performance. This hybrid work opportunity is based in Boston, Massachusetts, with a structured in-office schedule of Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, while Mondays and Fridays allow for remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update squad performance metrics (e.g., burn-down charts) and artifacts to ensure accurate and clear feedback to the squad members and transparency to other partners.
  • Manage and coordinate logistics for participation in agile events (e.g., backlog prioritization, sprint planning, daily meetings, retrospectives, and as appropriate, scrum of scrum masters).
  • Support adoption and consistent use of enabling tools (e.g., Jira, Miro, MS Teams).
  • Manage, develop, and empower associates within the Chapter to aid in career growth and enable the delivery of increased value in their teams.
  • Establish technical standards and expertise for the area.
  • Identify current and future skill requirements for chapter members in partnership with Squad Leaders.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Scrum Master experience across several Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban, driving projects to successful completion.

  • Demonstration of a continuous improvement approach.
  • Proven change agent capable of coaching agile practices to teams and individuals from various functions, experiences, and geographies as they navigate new and unfamiliar situations.
  • Effective facilitator who can brainstorm with the team to generate solutions that address challenges and roadblocks to accelerating value delivery.
  • Intellectually curious and passionate about learning new skills, modeling a culture of continuous learning, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing people and teams.
