About the position

The Scrum Master at American Equity is responsible for coaching scrum teams in the Information Systems department to ensure effective project delivery. This role involves maintaining and documenting sprints, facilitating team meetings, and removing barriers to achieve sprint goals. The Scrum Master will work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to enhance team performance and Agile practices.

Responsibilities

• Coaches and guides the team on Agile/Scrum values and practices.
• Assesses the Scrum maturity of the team and organization, coaching them to higher levels of maturity.
• Removes impediments or guides the team to remove impediments.
• Builds a trusting and safe environment focused on execution and problem-solving.
• Facilitates daily scrum, sprint planning, sprint demo, and retrospective meetings.
• Leads estimation, planning, and backlog grooming/refinement in Agile sprints.
• Assists with internal and external communications to improve transparency.
• Supports and educates the Product Owner on grooming and maintaining the product backlog.
• Provides bi-weekly status reports on project progress.
• Interfaces with users to develop procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Management, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of scrum master experience in an Agile software development environment.
• Experience applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.
• Experience using a variety of successful Agile techniques.
• Insurance industry experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Completion or working towards Certified Product Owner and Certified Scrum Master training.
