About the position

The Scrum Master at Universal Music Group will be dedicated to a single Scrum team, acting as a subject-matter expert to facilitate agile practices and enhance team performance. This role emphasizes collaboration, problem-solving, and the promotion of self-organized teams while ensuring adherence to Scrum principles. The Scrum Master will serve as a liaison between technical and non-technical departments, manage project planning and communication, and support the development team in achieving their goals.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between technical and non-technical departments.
  • Communicate with management, developers, product managers/owners, and technical support specialists on product issues.
  • Organize and facilitate project planning, daily stand-up meetings, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos, and other Scrum-related meetings.
  • Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress.
  • Ensure the development team practices core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, feedback loops, and visibility.
  • Assist with backlog maintenance and internal/external communication to improve transparency.
  • Assist with prioritization and resolution of defects/bugs.
  • Participate proactively in developing and maintaining team standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Responsible for team velocity/capacity in planning activities.
  • Identify and remove impediments, preventing distractions.
  • Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution.
  • Empower the team to self-organize.

Requirements

  • Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design or computer science, and/or 10 years equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of Scrum Master experience.
  • Experience working with an offshore/onshore team model.
  • Thorough understanding of agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Understanding of the organization's development platform and languages.
  • Ability to understand technical issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Scrum Master or equivalent experience.
  • eComm experience, preferably with Shopify.
  • High technical aptitude.
