The Department of Art and Design at Binghamton University is seeking a highly qualified Sculpture Studio Associate to provide essential technical support and safety oversight for a 7,000 square foot sculpture facility and wood shop. This full-time position is integral to the department, collaborating closely with faculty and students to ensure that both instructional and research needs are met. The Studio Associate will be responsible for providing technical consultation, conducting demonstrations, and offering support to enhance the educational experience of students engaged in sculpture practices. In this role, the Studio Associate will perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, ensuring that the facility remains functional, organized, and clean. Compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), safety protocols, and hazardous materials (hazmat) requirements is a critical aspect of the position. The Studio Associate will also be tasked with purchasing materials and supplies for classes, scheduling deliveries, and maintaining budgets and inventories. Additionally, the role involves contributing to capital improvements within departmental studios and assisting with special events, making it a dynamic position that supports a variety of activities across the department. It is important to note that this is a non-teaching position, focusing on the operational and technical aspects of the sculpture studio. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree and demonstrate broad skills in various technical and material processes, particularly in carpentry, along with significant safety experience. A high level of craftsmanship and knowledge is essential to fulfill the needs of the position effectively.
