About the position

The Seasonal Customer Service Clerk at the Navy Exchange Service Command is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and support in various retail operations. This role involves assisting customers with transactions, layaway services, and account management while ensuring a positive shopping experience. The clerk will work as part of a sales team to meet customer needs and contribute to store sales goals.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and provides specialized services to customers.
  • Performs transactions quickly, efficiently, and professionally.
  • Provides layaway services and explains layaway policies and requirements.
  • Handles refunds, merchandise exchanges, and price adjustments according to NEX policy.
  • Takes and places customer special orders, computes costs, and takes required deposits.
  • Monitors status of rain checks and advises customers on order delivery and updates.
  • Assists customers in opening NEXCARD accounts and provides basic program information.
  • Resolves customer problems and complaints tactfully, referring nonroutine issues to higher-level associates.
  • Interacts with customers and coworkers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Communicates information to customers knowledgeably and legibly, following up on commitments.
  • Reviews stock assortments and communicates with supervisors regarding customer preferences and needs.
  • Participates in department meetings to discuss improvements in customer service and sales goals.
  • Performs cash register transactions accurately and procedurally correct.
  • Shops the competition to understand retail store sales events and policies.
  • Advises customers of upcoming sales events and available services.
  • Maintains awareness in assigned areas to deter theft and provide excellent customer service.
  • Completes paperwork associated with merchandise inventory movement and cash register operation accurately.
  • Assists in training new associates in store programs and policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales work.
  • Ability to perform satisfactorily in the position.
