About the position

The Seasonal Fisheries Technician position at the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians involves performing data collection and habitat enhancement tasks, primarily focused on a juvenile salmon outmigration study on the Stillaguamish River. The role requires working under the lead Fisheries Biologist, operating a smolt trap, and conducting various fieldwork activities from January to July 2025. The technician will be expected to work flexible hours, including weekends and night shifts, and must be prepared to work in inclement weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and operate the smolt trap on the Stillaguamish River.
  • Identify, measure, and enumerate juvenile salmonids.
  • Perform trap maintenance and data collection.
  • Enter and reconcile electronic data accurately.
  • Assist in seining for broodstock for the Tribe's Fall Chinook captive brood program.
  • Transport juveniles to the Tribe's hatchery following biosecurity protocols.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year college with an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree focusing on natural resources or related field, or two years of related experience may substitute for education requirement.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and a Pre-Employment Drug Test.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as hiking, swimming, and heavy lifting (up to 45 pounds).
  • Ability to perform data entry efficiently and accurately in a Microsoft Access Database.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ropes, rigging, pulleys, and winches.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • Experience operating row boats and motorized boats in high flows.
  • Experience launching, retrieving, and hauling a boat on a trailer.
  • Experience maneuvering a truck and trailer.
