About the position

The Seasonal Hostess will play a crucial role in providing a welcoming atmosphere for guests at our restaurant. This position involves direct interaction with the public, including taking reservations, seating customers, and greeting guests as they arrive. The Hostess will be responsible for maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor while managing the flow of guests in the restaurant and bar area. This role requires effective communication with supervisors, co-workers, and guests, ensuring that all inquiries and requests are handled promptly and courteously. In addition to guest interactions, the Hostess will be tasked with developing and maintaining constructive working relationships with team members and other departments. This includes observing and gathering information from various sources to enhance the guest experience. The Hostess will also be expected to handle complaints and resolve conflicts, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and the ability to negotiate effectively. Administrative responsibilities are also part of this role, including maintaining the restaurant office supplies, filing, and providing administrative support as requested by the manager. The Hostess must ensure that the work area is kept neat and orderly, contributing to the overall cleanliness and organization of the restaurant environment.

Responsibilities

  • Take reservations and manage the seating of customers in the restaurant/bar area.
  • Greet guests warmly upon arrival and seat them appropriately.
  • Maintain menus in pristine condition, including printing daily menu inserts.
  • Attend to all incoming phone calls and confirm reservations.
  • Inspect dining and serving areas to ensure cleanliness and proper setup.
  • Speak with patrons to ensure satisfaction with food and service, and respond to complaints.
  • Maintain contact with kitchen staff, management, and serving staff to ensure dining details are handled properly.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of dining room staff to ensure prompt and courteous service.
  • Provide guests with menus and assist them with any inquiries.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, associates, and guests.

Requirements

  • Previous restaurant experience required.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to follow payroll and key sign-out procedures.
  • Ability to assist guests and respond to hotel emergencies or safety situations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Open Table, and Micros.
  • Understanding of menu items, ingredients, preparation, and presentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Food Handler and Basset Certifications.
