About the position

CHS Inc. is seeking a seasonal operations specialist / truck driver to join our team in Devils Lake, ND for the Fall Harvest season! This position is crucial during our busy harvest period, where the selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation of our agricultural services. The role involves general labor responsibilities under general supervision, which must be carried out promptly and efficiently. The operations specialist will prepare trucks and railcars for loading and unloading, which may include tasks such as sampling, loosening large nuts, opening hatches, and attaching or detaching flexible hoses. The position also requires loading and unloading agricultural inputs from railcars and trucks using both heavy and light-duty machinery and equipment. Regular maintenance and inspection of equipment are essential, as well as monitoring and maintaining the quality of inventory, which may include blended, bulk, or packaged products. Delivering products such as fertilizer, chemicals, seeds, and feed to customer sites is a key responsibility, ensuring that deliveries are accurate, timely, and conducted in a safe and professional manner. Compliance with all local, state, and federal laws is mandatory, including pre-trip and post-trip reporting, proper load securement, and adherence to hours of service regulations. The operations specialist will also be responsible for keeping work areas and vehicles clean and orderly, conducting regular housekeeping duties, and performing grounds maintenance, including snow removal. In addition to these responsibilities, the role includes warehouse work such as driving loaders, loading and unloading inventory, and operating forklifts. The candidate will need to promptly report any customer complaints, repair or maintenance needs, or safety concerns to their supervisor. A strong safety culture is promoted, and adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations is expected. Other duties may be assigned as needed to ensure the facility operates smoothly and customers receive excellent service.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare trucks and railcars for loading/unloading, which may require sampling, loosening large nuts, opening hatches, and attaching and/or detaching flexible hoses.
  • Load and unload agricultural inputs from railcars and/or trucks using heavy or light duty machinery/equipment.
  • Conduct and properly record repairs and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance tasks. Regularly inspect in-use equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain quality of inventory (may include blended, bulk or packaged product).
  • Deliver products such as fertilizer, chemical, seed, feed and others to customer sites ensuring accurate and on time deliveries in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws including but not limited to pre-trip and post-trip reporting, proper load securement and hours of service.
  • Keep all work areas and vehicles in a clean, orderly and safe condition. Conduct regular housekeeping duties such as sweeping, shoveling, power washing, scraping and cleaning up spills. Complete appropriate record keeping.
  • Perform grounds maintenance including snow removal.
  • Perform warehouse work including driving loader, loading/unloading inventory, forklift operation, and general maintenance.
  • Promptly report any customer complaints, repair or maintenance needs, or safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned to ensure facility operates smoothly and customers receive excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in Operations and/or Trucking Operations
  • Must meet minimum age requirement
  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Maintain or be able to obtain a CDL and DOT medical card.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Ability to work additional hours and occasional weekends to meet business demands

Nice-to-haves

  • Hazmat, Tanker, and Air Brake endorsements preferred
  • Valid Class A CDL preferred
  • Agriculture background preferred
  • Customer service experience preferred
  • Bulk liquid, Pressure trailer, or Forklift experience preferred
