About the position

The Second Class Power Plant Engineer at Framingham State University is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of high-pressure boilers and auxiliary machinery. This role ensures the safe and efficient functioning of the power plant facility, responding to emergencies and equipment breakdowns while maintaining adequate fuel supplies. The engineer will also supervise a small team, ensuring compliance with safety practices and standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair high-pressure boilers and auxiliary machinery.
  • Clean machinery and equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Respond to emergencies or equipment breakdowns promptly.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of fuel for the power plant operations.
  • Inspect and monitor various types of machinery and systems to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Repair and overhaul machinery and equipment as needed.
  • Evaluate equipment or system problems during emergencies and take corrective action.
  • Ensure compliance with safety practices and standard operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles of operation of industrial type heating systems.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of industrial type heating systems.
  • Knowledge of the principles of pneumatics as applied to heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
  • Knowledge of calibration and adjustment techniques for pneumatic control systems.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical practice.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring equipment used in power plants.
  • Possession of a Second Class or higher Stationary Engineer's license.
