About the position

The Second Shift Operations Lead at Veolia North America is responsible for directing and coordinating team member activities to achieve operational goals in a hazardous material processing environment. This role involves hands-on material handling tasks, mentoring staff, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards during the second shift hours of 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned area while maintaining operation efficiencies.
  • Proficient in all process areas of department, mastering all four components (CSB/ADA, TRB, Bulk Ramp and TSDF).
  • Lead, direct and coordinate all team member activities to achieve team goals.
  • Interface with other Lead Material Handlers to achieve team goals.
  • Manage site waste generated in work area.
  • Create maintenance work orders to ensure upkeep of equipment.
  • Resolve remedial work orders or other environmental concerns and complete closure requirements.
  • Respond to spills as required.
  • Manage leaking boxes in a timely manner, making temporary repairs as necessary.
  • Provide routine manpower for box storage areas for housekeeping, RCRA, TSCA, and safety related items.
  • Maintain department housekeeping standards and ensure effective upkeep of all tools, equipment, and facilities.
  • Interface with contractors and internal departments to obtain information, answer questions, and resolve problems and special requests.
  • Operate forklift, backhoe, rolloff truck, gradall, and other heavy equipment and power hand tools.
  • Assist emergency coordinator in emergencies.
  • Prepare numerous logs and reports for tracking purposes.
  • Initiate emergency action procedures for managing a leaking container.
  • Work with other departments to meet goals.
  • Communicate with the supervisor and control room constantly to ensure goals are met.
  • Ensure safety and compliance is a priority as well as meeting set goals and expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and/or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Minimum two years of hazardous material processing and/or handling experience
  • Minimum one year of heavy equipment operation preferred
  • Ability to communicate through reading and writing
  • Trained in the use of material handling equipment
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER training preferred
