About the position

The Secondary Firearms Instructor (SFI) at GDIT plays a crucial role in providing training and support for Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) Requalification Training sessions. This part-time position involves assisting the Lead Firearms Instructor in various training activities, ensuring student safety, and delivering effective instruction in firearms and related law enforcement disciplines. The SFI is expected to maintain high standards of professionalism and initiative in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the overall success of the training program.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Firearms Instructor during FFDO Requalification Training sessions.
  • Assist in the preparation, completion, and post-session clean-up of all FFDO Semi-annual Firearms Requalification sessions.
  • Ensure student safety during dry-fire and live-fire training venues.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction to students during the pre-qualification course of fire and remedial training as designated by the Lead Firearms Instructor.
  • Effectively communicate law enforcement training concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Instruct in accordance with principles of basic adult education and practical area instruction for law enforcement.
  • Interpret, apply, and adhere to established program policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Secure Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) during and after re-qualification sessions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of formal experience as an instructor in firearms, defensive tactics/measures, and use of force.
  • Current or former certified law enforcement official or civilian employee with completion of a certified firearms training program.
  • Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, or work/military experience.
  • Compliance with all Federal, state, and local requirements.
